A stream walks

September 20, 2013

Some shots of streams and the Potomac River that I took while out there enjoying the fresh air in nature parks in Maryland and Virginia. Gorgeous weather out there—I love when the DC summer heat calms into autumn warmth, and it’s comfortable being outside all day. Also, a poem inspired by my walks by the water is sandwiched among the photos…

The stream walks

The stream walks, talks,
rushes, gushes,
stumbles, mumbles,
twists, curves,
gargles, spits,
pauses to see
an overhanging

But mostly, it
soothes and
smoothes the
stones that
yearn to
roll on and on and
see each and every
perch and nook
of this crazy world,
circumrolling the globe
many many times over,
just to make sure
everything was seen—
then finally resting on a
mountain peak,
sharp angled proud,
and soaking in
the admiration
of onlookers.
