Cicada wing

Cicada wing and maple seedpod

During Brood II’s limited invasion, my daughter found a cicada and a wing closeby. When she showed it to me, the shape of it reminded me of a maple tree’s seedpod (helicopter), and I scanned them in to get a closer look. Close up, the structure of these is fascinating. Here’s a bit closer in on the cicada wing:
