It’s Birthday Time!

May 12, 2011

Today brings a special guest star post: a poem from one of my daughters. It’s not her birthday, nor anyone’s in the family. But it’s still a fun poem — and surely someone out there has a birthday today.

Birthday Cake Floating with Balloons Cartoon
It’s Birthday Time!

Ding dong! The doorbell rings!
It’s time for cake and birthday things!
Let’s open presents!
Let’s have some cake!
A huge birthday mess we make.
Have some fruit punch!
There’s more and more.
Party favors and out the door.
It’s been a really fun day.
I get into bed and snore away.

Good original poem – which could also be a song – on familiar experience.
Maybe it could be used by film makers who can’t afford to pay for the right to include Happy Birthday (which is extortionate).

That is super cute, and frankly, I think it’s better than the “Happy Birthday”song, because there wouldn’t be that awkward bit where the singers go…”Happy birthday, dear….(whoever)….” that kind of strangles every time! Your daughter is very creative! 🙂

Thanks for the kind words! I’ll pass on your comments to my daughter — she’ll love it! The Happy Birthday song can be awkward when it comes time to fill in the blank with the person’s name… I find that the singing group is usually close together with the words as they sing the song – – until they get to the part of fill in the blank. Some people sing nicknames, some don’t. Can be fun, though!
