Azaleas

May 6, 2011

A bit after the cherry blossoms drop their petals in the Washington, DC region, the azaleas start blossoming. These bushes come in lots of different colors, with blossoms crowding each bush. The effect is beautiful. Azaleas are in many front yards where I live in Maryland, but a great place to see these colorful bushes is the U.S. National Arboretum in DC. I visited there a little while ago… some azaleas were in full bloom, while other varieties were just starting to open up. Some highlights:
Light Pink Azaleas
Bright Pink Azaleas
Pink azaleas starting to blossom
White and red striped azaleas
White and purple striped azalea blossoms
