be nice to animals (poem 48)
be nice to animals,
lest they eat us all.
just look at the cat’s sharp teeth–
they could rip me to shreds.
that parakeet’s beak could
poke my eyes out in seconds.
that dog who’s slobbering could be
thinking about how tasty i look.
you may say that squirrel is cute,
but he may wish to chomp on my toes.
you laugh and say that goldfish are harmless,
but what if a thousand of them could
nibble me to death?
please be nice to animals.
we don’t know what they’re really thinking about.
