moss beard (poem 15)

Friday brings another poem…

moss beard
Illustration of stone and moss
just a rock
sittin’ by the creek
soakin’ up the sunlight
that falls around branches
just a rock
feelin’ all right
listenin’ to the brook
babble ’bout nothin’ in particular
he just likes listenin’
to his own voice
but not me, no
just a rock
solid and silent
what’s a rock got to do,
but sit and watch the world brew?
then moss begins to grow
my own green beard
not gonna shave
just let it go natural like
day by day,
year by year,
in rain and sunny clear
just a rock
that’s me
growin’ my own green beard.
