Cherry Blossoms

April 8, 2010

No t-shirt designs or poetry today… instead, some photos to share. The family and I went to Washington, DC this past weekend to enjoy the cherry blossoms. They were a little past their peak bloom, but there was still beauty to be had.

It’s a spectacular sight when all the trees are at their peak, but unfortunately the peak doesn’t last very long.

In 1912, Tokyo Mayor Yukio Ozaki gave 3,000 cherry trees to Washington, DC — and the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival (currently under way) celebrates this gift.

A few trees in the Tidal Basin area looked like they had recently lost branches — I guess from February’s two big snowstorms (in 2010). Nice to see that the cherry trees made it through okay.
