We went to a shopping mall

We went to
a shopping mall,
which was quite
crowded on this
winter weekend day,
with their wares
looking enticing in
colorful packages and
us eager with the
possibilities of things.

But we wondered if
the mannequins were
bored in the glamour
and the glitz, standing
there all day,
some headless
and some handless,
even though they were
always dressed in
the fashion of the day.

And we wondered if
these trendy figures
would ever pull loose
from their stands and
haunt us humans,
like in a creepy
book or movie,
possibly trying to
do us harm.

So, when we left
the mall, we made
sure to look back,
checking if they
were following
us to our car,
waiting until
we got in, then
opening the door
and do us in or
simply wanting to see
where we lived.
